A mathematical estimate
SupportBuyout.com estimates the present value of a payment schedule using the assumptions you enter. It does not determine the amount or duration of a support obligation, select an appropriate discount rate, value every right being released, recommend a settlement, or predict a court’s decision. Example figures are illustrative. Individual payment adjustments are entered assumptions. A zero replacement does not establish that support was waived, received, or forgiven, and does not create an arrears accounting.
Results depend on payment amounts, duration, discount rates, timing, rate conversion, and any selected adjustments. Review the methodology and the assumptions in each report. Displayed amounts may be rounded; changing assumptions changes the result.
Legal and economic limits
The model does not automatically adjust for death, remarriage, cohabitation, modification, enforceability, default, collection risk, or changes in the parties’ circumstances. It does not assign probabilities to future events. A buyout may release rights or create obligations that are not captured by a present-value calculation.
The calculator and its reports provide information, not legal, tax, financial, or investment advice. Using the calculator does not create an attorney-client or other professional engagement. Independently verify the inputs, applicable law, existing orders, and proposed agreement with qualified advisers before relying on a result.
Tax assumptions
Optional tax percentages illustrate specified cash-flow assumptions; they do not establish the tax treatment of support or a lump-sum buyout. Treatment may depend on jurisdiction, the date and terms of an instrument, modifications, and the structure of the transaction. Federal and state rules can differ. Consult a tax professional about your circumstances.
Reports and professional inquiries
Downloaded and firm-branded reports reproduce entered assumptions and selected model outputs. They are not independently reviewed opinions or certifications. A professional inquiry is a request to discuss services; any engagement requires a separate agreement on scope and terms. Submit only the requested inquiry information. See Privacy for information handling.
