Why I built SupportBuyout.com
The idea behind SupportBuyout.com is simple: make a complex financial calculation easier to work through, while keeping the reasoning visible.
A support buyout brings that question into focus. You’re comparing payments over time with a lump sum today. The amount, duration, timing, and discount rate all shape the calculation. I wanted a place where you could see those assumptions clearly, change them, and understand what changed in the result.
That idea guides the calculator: a few clear inputs, a useful answer, and a path into the details when you need them.
For me, design is part of the explanation.
A well-labeled field helps you understand what you’re being asked. A clear comparison helps you see the difference between two possibilities. A readable report makes it easier to return to the reasoning and share it with someone else.
Those details are where my interest in forensic accounting and my love of design meet. I enjoy taking something that feels dense or difficult and finding a way to make it approachable, with the important details still there to examine.
My hope is that you feel that care when you use this site. You should have room to think, explore, and ask better questions.
Start simply. Follow the question further.
SupportBuyout.com is a calculator for exploring the present value of future support payments. It gives people considering a buyout, family-law attorneys, mediators, and financial professionals a shared place to examine a set of assumptions.
Basic starts with a monthly amount, a payment term, and a discount rate. Pro gives accountants, family law attorneys, and informed self-represented parties payment phases, scenario comparisons, sensitivity analysis, and detailed reports with workpapers. Expert includes everything in Pro, plus multiple matters, buyout offer and reverse calculations, and reports bearing your firm’s identity.
Wherever you begin, I want you to leave with a clearer understanding of the number in front of you and a better sense of what to ask next.
Thanks for being here.
This is the kind of work I care about: careful analysis, made clear enough to be useful. I’m glad to share it with you.
